Weddings and Wolves…

I bet that title is making you think, right? Well…it’s not some figure of speech…it’s literal. If you read last week’s entry you are aware of my leaving to Denver over the weekend to attend a high school friend’s wedding. I had a ton of fun, although is was more like a high school reunion, and I saw all kinds of animals.
I got up early on Saturday and left to pick up my friend to go to the airport. She’s probably my closest, oldest friend and since we were both planning on going to the wedding we decided to travel together and share a hotel room and rental car. The flight was fine…it’s just a little under 2 hours to fly to Denver from LA but there was a ton of turbulance before landing in Denver. Usually I don’t get queasy easily…but it felt like we were on a roller coaster!
Upon landing we visited the ladies’ room and to my surprise the restrooms in the Denver airport are also tornado shelters! Too funny! I’ve never seen anything like it…
We then grabbed our luggage, got our rental car, and headed to the hotel. After checking in we had to hurry and get ready for the rehearsal dinner. The drive to the rehearsal dinner was about an hour and a half…the groom’s family is from Dallas so they rented this amazing house, which seemed more like a huge log cabin, in a town just west of Denver called Silverthorne. So on the way we actually saw snow on the side of the road and on the mountains, we saw billy goats just on the side of the freeway as well, buffalo out in the fields, and a fox in a neighbor’s yard that was playing with a dog. Crazy stuff. Roughing it in Denver in heels and a sleeveless dress! Hahahahahah…
The dinner was lovely…we had a three course fondue meal, though I skipped the last because as you all know, it consists of chocolate and I am definitely not a chocolate fan. Luckily I was able to drink and not worry about driving because my friend that I was traveling with is pregnant so she couldn’t drink anyways and said she’d be the designated driver. See…I’m a responsible young lady…really, I am! So after a little while we made the trip back to Denver.
The day of the wedding we woke up, went to work out, ordered breakfast into the room, and then went and got manicures and pedicures. But we were taking our time with everything (it was a mini vacation, afterall) and once we got back to the hotel from the nail salon we didn’t have much time to get ready. So we rushed and then headed to the wedding. The location of the wedding was absolutely beautiful. My friend and her now-husband were married on the edge of a lake and then immediately after being wed they go onto a large raft equipped with a loveseat table and champagne and floated out into the middle of the lake. I thought it was a brilliant idea because so many people are hounded by all the guests with congratulations immediately after being wed. This way the bride and groom were able to bask in the moment alone for a brief while.
Here’s where the wolves come into play. While waiting for them to come back, I went over to see the wolves with a couple friends. The location of the wedding has three wolves on the property…but they are kept behind a fence. They were absolutely amazing. My favorite one was the darkest one…a dark grey or light black with yellow eyes…he was the only one I took photos of. Look how amazing he is…
So to wrap it up…we ate dinner, drank a TON of wine, ate cake, drank even MORE wine, and danced the night away. My friend and I left around 10:15 or so because she was feeling nauseous…damn baby! Hahahha. But it was a ton of fun and great to see old friends, some of whom I hadn’t seen in 9 years or so!
This week I’m just trying to catch up on some things…like getting my taxes finished so that I meet my extension deadline. And yesterday I finally ordered and paid for all the hardwood flooring for my house…so that should be delivered a week from Monday and then installed a few days after that. I CAN’T WAIT!!! And tomorrow I’m shooting content with Erica Campbell for the site…should be fun! Talk to you next week…
